Lut Caenen was born in Belgium and presently lives and works in Belgium and Portugal.
She studied philosophy and visual arts in respectively the University of Leuven and the R. Ho. K. Brussels. She is also a performer of TenChi Tessen, an art of movement that she transports into her art.
A long time writer, translator and reciter, Lut Caenen carried her love of words into the visual arts. Here, the energy of the word, the rhythm and dancing movement of language has become the site of her search for the pure act of creation.
As a visual artist, Lut Caenen remains in the field of language: she fills the page with handwritten words that are simultaneously copied and concealed through layer upon layer of reiterated transcription.
Starting from poetry – mainly Fernando Pessoa – Lut Caenen’s art is a work of alchemy where the contours of individual words are dissolved and transformed into a graphic field. It is a visual composition made of signs and traces tending towards the void, the blank space of silence.
From 2016 on she shows her work in group and solo exhibitions in Belgium and Portugal. Her work is present in private collections.
